Yes, I know that I deserve to be shot for the many puns contained in that short title, but I just could not resist.
I have noticed for the past week or so, that wave has been a lot quieter, while my inbox used to be full, now there are just a couple of updates a day. This is strange, since I would expect an increase in activity, especially since Google has been releasing a lot of Wave invites lately.
Either it is simply the holidays, as people tend to shift focus away from technology to family at this time of the year, or it is the fact that people are getting over waving for the sake of waving, and are starting to use wave differently.
I am not sure which one it is, but we will see if the usage goes back up in January. Any ideas why wave has been so quiet? Please comment if you have any thoughts on this.

My guess is in the past few months there has been a lot of hype surrounding Wave, which has made people want to check it out. And I think you might be right, people aren’t just waving for the sake of waving. However, they could also not be waving because a lot of their social network isn’t even on wave yet. It’s hard to really utilize a collaboration platform like Wave when you don’t have the majority of your social network to Wave with. Then, the problem I’ve sort of run into is that as I invite people to join me on wave in my social networks, they give me the “pfft” because it’s such a different animal to understand.
I have observed the very same phenomenon. I was clamoring for invites before and now that plenty are available I don’t even know who to invite.
I just use it only with the few people I collaborate on documents. Otherwise it’s not worth talking non-technical folks into it.
I think the disappointment is that although I love live typing the extra clicks needed to chat make it harder to use than traditional chat systems.
It’s all about subtle usability.
